Synopsis:
Vishwanath (Kamal Hassan), a Kathak dancer and Nirupama (Pooja Kumar), a nuclear oncologist gets married and lives in New York. It is an arranged marriage and three years of their marriage life passes with out any excitment except their career building. Vishwanath opens a dance school and Nirupama completes her Ph.D. Later, She becomes more ambitious and wants to break their marriage. She wants to show a flaw in Vishwanath and break the marriage. For this she hires a detective who later finds some shocking truths about Vishwanath. Those truths lead to a dread terrorist Omar. What is the actual story behind? What happens later forms the actual story part.
How did they perform?
Kamal Hassan excelled as usual in all the three roles. He managed good humour in the role of Vishwanath and delivered solid performance as a terrorist. No exaggeration in calling him Universal Hero.
Pooja Kumar is a surprise package. She does good and managed good comedy. Andrea Jeremiah is okay. Rahul Bose is superb as baddie. Jaideep is good as Omar’s close aide. Nasser and few others are good in the little roles they are offered.
Technical Performances:
Vishwaroopam is Kamal Hassan’s dream project. He proved himself as a director with this movie. In all the technical departments, he set a new standard to Indian cinema. The movie is almost on par with an Hollywood movie in terms of visual grandeur. But he had failed to deliver a racy screenplay which is extremely crucial for a thriller movie. The narration part goes way ward in the first half. And the screenplay is perfect in the second half.
Sanu Varghese’s camera work is the second best thing of the movie. It is absolutely splendid. Every frame looked so real and audience get a feel of Hollywood kind of movie when watching. Art work especially in the Afghan episodes looked excellent. Audience can not differentiate between set work and reality. Music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is good. Some parts of The Dark Knight music is used. Editing could have been better especially in the first half.
Final Say:
Vishwaroopam is miles ahead of other Indian movies in terms of technicality. But Kamal Hassan the director had failed to deliver the racy screenplay which is necessary for binding audience to a thriller. The movie does not have the commercial elements like comedy which can lure masses to theaters. Despite the narration issues, It is expected to go well with A class audience. We will have to see how they embrace it!
